Bought a Mariner 2 stroke serial number 09582968. I'm curious about it's age & if anybody has any idea about the best stainless steel propeller to fit for water skiing & how many splines? I currently have it fitted on a 1965 Glastron V171 Sportsman 17ft that I'm about to put it the water next week after a complete re-build.

You can count the splines on your prop shaft. I think it is 15 for Mercs. I ran a Quicksilver Laser SS on my engine like yours. A 17P would get you pretty good all around performance with folks and water toys; 19 if few folks and no toys.

Is that an inline six? I do not have a way to determine the age of the motor, however all inline sixes use the same family of props. You need to prop it so it makes 5500RPM at full throttle with a normal load. So determine what pitch prop will do that for you and choose one of those. On a 17 footer, I would think a 17-19" pitch prop would be a good starting point.
