How do I know hp and year of Mercury?

I just purchased a Mercury outboard, but am not sure if either the hp or the year are accurate as advertised. Motor was advertised as a Mercury Black Max 150, year 1994, and the engine cover would match this. I tried to cross serial number and could not verify year...

Serial No. A149177

Serial Tag states Mfg in Wisconsin

If it is a 150, that s/n comes up as:

150 1985 ELPTO 6616991 - A904645

Can you look on the powerhead, lower right side for a s/n disc like this:
