Help with mercury quicksilver controls compatabilty engine swap box

Hi
I have a 2003 tracker mercury 40hp on my pontoon. Good motor but I need more power. Appears to have a quicksilver commander 3000 control box with the big button in center

I want to buy a used larger merc motor. What era timeframe of merc motors are compatible with this control box and cables.
How far back can I go?

1975?


Ps I also have a tachometer in the boat and a water pressure dial

What should I be looking for?

I want to avoid rewiring or recalling if possible

almost every time you change out motor or control there will be some kind of rewiring a 1975 will have a tach, but not a water pressure setup there maybe a trim control too. but you can check with mercury to see if it will work ! have fun
