need help getting mariner 25 hp started

I havent ran this motor in a few years, but i have always turned it over occassionally and it has been kept out of the weather. Now im trying to get it running and all it does while turning over is cough sputter and back fire. Im thinking i might have the wrong plugs in it, but cant find which plugs are correct. Im getting fuel and spark so......... Any help would be appreciated!

Is it new gas ? You might try some sea foam, some people swear by it.

fuel is good, thats why im thinking the plugs might be the wrong ones, but cant find out what it calls for! I might try to call some marinas in the area to see if they have a way to look it up.
