I have an old (~77/78) Mariner 60hp 2 cylinder and have been having trouble selecting gears. I've taken the lower unit off and taken the water pump off and the gearhousing cover. The splined shift rod (#10) seems to just spin (?) when I assume it should locate into the shift cam (#12) and allow for/rev gear selection. So I guess the cam spline has been damaged ? I've got the large nut and claw washer (#42/#43) off. I have a Clymer Manual, but because it tries to cover so many mariner models it's really not clear how to disassemble the driveshaft / propshaft assembly on this unit.
So the question is ... what is the order and technique for getting the propshaft/driveshaft out so that I can check the cam and replace if necessary.

Thanks
