I have a 1985 Mercury 115hp Tower of Power. Number 3 piston is scoring the cylinder wall. I am looking for a used / rebuilt powerhead. Any idea what years will be compatabile with the rest of my engine? I am looking for something that I can just bolt and go, or something to swap all my carbs/ electronics, etc over to.
I know they started making lots of changes in the 80s with transom mounts, drive shafts, electronic connections etc.
Anyone know what years to focus on for a replacement.
PS. I may try to rebuild my head over the winter if I get the time. I run in salt water and the water jacket doesn't look like it is coming off without a fight!
