power trim ID

I have a 1987 Mercury black max XR2 SN is A166528 . Do I have to take outboard off to replace the trim motor? because it don't want to slide out I have all bolts and wrist pin off and what part number is the right one? its 3 wires that come out of the top.

There is a long thread describing just what you need to do. It is about a 1984 V6 Merc, but your's is the same....
