I'm working on a 1967 Mercury 110, 9.8hp and I need to replace the forward gear bearing. I've removed the lower unit and have taken the water pump off, the bearing carrier, prop shaft out and the bolt that holds the pinion gear onto the drive shaft. There is a screw on the outside of the unit close to the seal below the water pump and I have loosen that. Shouldn't the drive shaft come right off? I pullede on it but it isn't budging. Do I need to do something else or just yank harder?
