1970 800 Mercury won't start after shut down

I have a 1980 Silverline boat that I put a 1970 Mercury 800 on. Any time I let it set for a couple of days it will start right up, but when you shut it down it will not restart. I was wondering where a good place to start looking for this issue would be.

Just for the record I figured out the problem. The plug between the internal and external harness has gone bad. If I wiggle it the boat will start and if you move it while it is running it will die.

That makes sense although odd in that it was only a problem on restart.

When I rebuilt my boat, I put a tiny screwdriver down the center of the pins to spread them out a bit, you'll see if they are like mine they have a slot in the center of the bigger pins. I also put some dialectric grease on the rubber plug to insure that it pushed in properly.
