Stripped her to rebuild and found that I did not have a 12PT socket that was a fit on the con rod bolts. Not 6mm, as this motor has a pleth' of metric bolts. The 6mm was too small. 7mm would be way too big as a 1/4 inch was a sloppy fit. Has Mercury in their infinite wisdom come up with something of their own? Used the sloppy fit 1/4 inch to do the job and yes the socket is brand new from Sears.
Perhaps the bolts came from India. They are known for poor tolerances from my past experiences. Any Mercury specialists please comment.
