As noted in the subject - I have a 2004 Mercury 200 SW series. I'm looking for troubleshooting ideas for this issue.
When the boat is on plane and cruising and what seems to be when I hit a certain RPM (~3000rpm) the engine shuts-off. (No coughing, no bogging, no spuddering... just "off".) Then I turn the key and the engine fires right up like nothing happened. I should also note, if I push the engine past the mystery RPM fault it seems to "by-pass" this "engine cut trigger". (I've tried going from 2500 to 3500 and that seems to be fine, but if the engine comes back down to the 3000 (-ish) it "dies", or if i'm accelerating and not watching the dial and hit the 3000 (-ish) it "dies".
It seems electrical (or computer related) to me, but I can't figure out the link to the RPM, like something is falsely tripping a shutdown procedure?
Thoughts would be much appreciated. Not sure what tests I can do to hone in on the culprit.....
