1985 merc 115 intermittent surge ! Switch box ?

My Merc 115 has a intermittent surge at certain lower speeds comes and goes almost like a power loss but really not constent .
One switch box was replaced before i bought it & was told that it would probaly have to be replaced again since only one was replaced and that two should be replaced at the same time.
Does this make sense ? Prevoius owner claimed same symptoms before one switch box was replaced over 6 years ago.

Just called the dealer and wow what a rip off ! $345 bucks for one switch box of course thats canadian he did say if that was the problem that both should be changed and to buy only original parts. . I can order up two for about $230 shipping incl online Mallory Switch Box versions are they good ?

yah I would replace with the cheaper rout. it should be fine, but also try and Ohm test your Stator as well. Google CDI electronics trouble shooting guide, If you find cheap CDI electronics I would go with that.

Hi Ireplaced only one switch box in my 1983 115 inline runs great but it is hard start cold P.S. I just got it from boat angles for $235.00 1983 astroglass 115 inline and trailer. replaced floor and new carpet some electric wiring

I ordered two from Boat Motor Recyclers inc via ebay its descirbes them as New Mercury Switch Box CDI# 114-7778

. Charlie how did your boat run before you changed one ?

I Bought new ones for my 90 hp same as 115 from boatfix.com for 135.00 a peice cdI switchboxes.

Did you even check the switch boxs were faulty?Surging can be caused by many other things like fuel,carbs etc.
Electrical parts are non refundable.

Problem started two or so summers ago carbs were checked /adjusted /cleaned by a reputable dealer two springs ago. He had said that the one switch box that was replaced 6 years ago was likely the culprit.

sometime it run for two for three min, it missfire and sometime it would no start at all. the was before i got it into lake wanted it runing good before puting it in it had not been ran i 8 years

Buy the Mallory boxes...they are made in Germany and Merc is a rip for sure..they don't make it just step on it to make a large profit.

Yes thats what i read made in germany for the Mallory boxes. Isnt that were merc gets them from ?
