Just completed putting a new impeller in my 72 Merc model 110 9.8 HP. The motor hadnt been run for quite a while so figured I should change the impeller 1st thing. When i dropped the lower unit and checked the impeller it was still in one piece but pretty hard and stiff. Installed the new impeller and new base plate ( which was also in good shape) Made sure the impeller was turning in the base and when putting the LU back on made sure the copper water tube was in the tube coming out of the WP. Started the motor in a large garbage can and ran for a few minutes and no water out of the pisser. Does this motor have a thermostat? How long can I run the motor with no water coming out before I do harm to the motor. Im at a loss as to what to try next. Reinstalling the LU was a chore getting the shift lever and the crank shaft to go back together. The index key was still in the shaft when I installed the new impeller and had to get it lined up before the impeller would go down into the base.
