Been a while since I've been on about any boat related problems... (I do like to keep up on the Lonestar forum though.....)

Last year I put the boat away with a problem. Forgot about it untill this year. Now I have to deal with it as boating season is here. And as much as I love my kayak it is not going to get me 10 miles down the lake in a short time. :)

My OB Merc is a 402 from 1977 on a 1958 Lonestar Monterey.

When I put it in gear it goes. I give it a little throttle it goes nice and slow at a smooth idle. I try to go faster... the engine RPM goes up... but I lose all forward momentum. It tries to speed up... but then it just gives up and revs as I settle back into the water. I don't want to take it in for work as the dogs have cost so much this year at the vet and my truck has swallowed thousands in parts and labour.

Any suggestions that I can check into?

The only prop I have for the motor is the one on it. I guess I'll have to go and purchase another prop. I was worried the spin hub might be shot. I'll drag it out and try to get to it today.
