Trying to figure out why when I hook up my recitfier my engine will not advance throttle, but when I disconnect it the engine will run top end perfect low end mid all around perfect. But would love to be able to charge my batteries. Any idea on what the problem maybe? Thanks My engine is a 1984 90Hp Mercury Inline 6 cyl.

Re: 90 hp mercury stator/trigger issues

One of the tests to determine a high speed ignition problem is to disconnect the rectifier.

When that clears up the misfire chances are the rectifier is bad, causing strange EMF within the stator and lowering voltage output of the high speed ignition coils.

Take the rectifier off and test continuity of each yellow to the red, then reverse your leads and retest. You should have continuity in only one direction. Repeat each yellow to ground and red to ground.

From what you have already proven, it is a pretty safe bet that your rectifier is done.

If you're using a tach disconnect it and give it a try
