I'm thinking about repowering my 1994 Key West stealth that has a Johnson 112 on it with a new Mercury 150 4 stroke. Just want to know some opinions on if it's a good choice considering the Johnson weighs about 306lbs and the new mercury would weigh 455lbs. Thanks in advance.

What year are the motors? Have you considered staying with a 2 stroke 150hp to significantly reduce the weight? What hp does your boat call for?

It has a 1995 Johnson 112 on it. I'm thinking of putting a 2012 Mercury 150 4 stroke on it. The boat is rated for up to 150. Their aren't many 150hp 2 strokes though.

Well I was looking for something in either evinrude or mercury. Preferably new or a well maintained used motor. I'm located in south florida.

I kind of wonder how much that 38hp difference will offset the 149 pounds of added weight to the back end. Why are you trading motors, are you tired of fooling with older stuff? Are you having trouble getting on plane, or pulling a skier? Either way I think a 2 stroke 150hp from the early 2000's would solve your problem quite nicely!!

Boating sales season is coming.Even in Fl I find the spring the best time to start looking.
Everyone who has let his motor or parts sells it in the spring.
Not sure I'd add another 150#s to that boats transom.Especially the 4stroke.
Start looking on E-bag and these salvage yards.
There are a few dealers that sell in the west palm area.

Well the reason I'm trading motors is because the one I have on now seizes up shortly after running it hard. That's also what I'm wondering how the weight will effect the boat.
