can anybody tell were this spring goes on a 9.8 110 mercury, it was looped on the end like it would go around a bolt, but it straighten out when i pulled it to a bolt in its path, but the bolt was to far away. i know it goes around the half moon plastic peice but i dont' know what it attaches to, i tore the motor apart last year to put in the plastic cam for the shifter that was stripped now i can't remember, thats what old age does to me or maybe one to many beers.thanks

Is it supposed to attach to itself maybe?

The spring should go to the tilt reverse lock lever on the transom bracket or motor cowling. What year and SR# is the motor?

Yeah bud, I think your best best is going to be to call some of the salvage yards and see if they have one of these as a parts motor. I tried searching for the part and came up with quite a few No Longer Available.. Some hardware stores have a decent selection of springs as well which you might be able to match up if yours is complete.

When looking for the parts and diagrams look at parts for a 1974 motor as 73 showes a older setup than you have.
To replace the lever that the spring hooks to call the following dealers as they list it in stock.
