temp switch gasket ??

I'm reconditioning this old Merc which seems to run fine at first try on the muffs, but I did notice a water leak at the temp switch in the head. I removed the switch and discovered that it had no gasket. The design of the switch and the machining of the head leads me to believe that this was designed for an an o ring seal. I don't plan on replacing the switch ($175.00), but I do need to stop the leak. I have a excellent water stream fom the pee hole after replacing the pump.
Any ideas or comments??

Thanks,
John

Re: temp switch gasket ??

Your water jacket cover gasket is leaking as the temp switch hole is not thru into water jacket.

Faztbullet,

Further observation reveals,as you said, the water is indeed leaking through at the interface of the water jacket cover.

Must I remove the power head to replace the water jacket cover?? The bottom 2 screws look like a problem with the power head still in place.

Thanks,

John

Remove the cowl brackets so bottom cowl will shift around and use a 1/4 drive set and 12 point wrench to get access plus a couple of cold ones....
