Hi everybody,

My first post on the forum, but I've been lurking for a few weeks.

I bought my first boat and engine a couple of weeks ago. The motor appears to be an old Merc 800, not completely sure of the year. There is a hole on this part of the midsection:

The hole is from the top. It doesn't appear to be threaded, but it also doesn't seem like there should just be a hole there. Can anybody tell me what this hole is for, and if it should be left open or plugged somehow?

Thanks!

If the hole is under the arrow, it's normal. The allen bolt that holds the trim anode on in the hole. There is a plastic plug that fits in the hole but it gets left off or lost. A lot of O/Bs are missing the plug, no problems.

Welcome to iboats, Ryan.
