Here's one for the tower-of-power guys - the old guys that is....LOL. I've deviated from my Evinrude collection and picked up a Mercury Mark 10. Could be a '57 or a '58 - no good documentation on the serial # cutoff, so I'm stumped.

Need some paint - could be "Matador" or "Buckskin Beige".

Two questions....

1. Anybody id the right color name?
2. Any duplicolor or other after-market paint that is a close match?

Yes I did. No help at all. The serial number range covers 2 years and my number is about in the middle. The problem is the colors changed between the 2 years.

Theoldmercs paint cost is astronomical. I can get NYMarine paint a lot less. As I said in my post above, I'm looking for a compatible duplicolor, krylon, etc.

My money is on Matador. Maybe it's the photo, but your cowling looks faded compared to the rest of the motor. Is that by design? Mercury generally contrasted them more than that if they were going to be 2-tone motors, and always with the top a darker tone than the bottom.

I have never seen a monochromatic 1957 Merc. This is a pic of a '58 Charcoal Mark 10 I had awhile back...

Also, the serial grouping on OldMercs shows two ranges. The first is marked as 1957-1958 models. Any that were sold as "1958s" were in all likelyhood made in 1957 and carried over. The second serial grouping are the actual 1958 manufactured motors... Mercury was noted for this, which is why for 1955 model year you could actually buy a Mark 5, Mark 6, and Mark 7 all at the same time...

Its just the lighting in my picture. The whole motor is faded, the top and bottom look the same and its definately original paint.
