Hello everyone, i have recently came across a good deal for a 1986 Mercury 200hp oil injected powerhead. The problem is it will be a replacement for my 1979 Mercury 200hp non oil injected outboard. From what i can tell, the engines look the same. Was there much difference between the years except for being oil injected? Is this a possible swap? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

Just the carbs and voltage regulator. No ignition. The powerhead is completely rebuilt and only cost 1100 bucks so if i have to buy new electronics off ebay i think i will still save money. I guess my biggest concerns are block and bracket mounting.

If your old 200 has vertical reeds the cowling will not fit due to different intake design, your old wireing harness will work with a couple of sight mod's as will your switchboxes
