Hi,

Would like to have best feedback...there are two different boats that I plan to buy...they are same company but different motors. Other is 2001 Mercury optimax DPI 225hp and other boat is 2003 Yamaha HPDI 225HP... both have same hours of using so need to decide which one is better. Both have two stroke.

Thanks,

John

I'm no expert but the 225 HPDI is the 3.3L block and I have read a lot of serious issues -- powerhead replacement to name one. The 150 and 200 HPDI are 2.6L and everything I read indicates that is a great block.

No, you would be much happier with the HPDI. That year Opti-pop had a a lot of issues, they have resolved them since. But regardless compression! compression! compression!

Biggest problem the 3.3 HPDI had was the fuel pumps as diaphragm would bust and take out #5 cylinder due to raw fuel ingested. This has been addressed and updated by Yamaha as I was told.
