I would like to replace the lower bearing cap on my engine, its been welded and has scratches
on the round sides that go up in the block. So far I have 5 number changes for this part .
Are these just part number changes, or are they number changes when a design modification
has been made? The old bearing cup is part no. 1185-6634, but the part no. in my parts
manual is no.1158-6635a1. Why are these numbers different?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH..........HAS

Re: Lower bearing cap 1985 50hp. 4cyl.

The lower end cap is internally the same as the pre 80's engine, they just changed the outer housing by deleting the extended guide and making it flat. This was due to the newer driveshaft and ADI ignition as crankshaft changed. Dont trust casting numbers as they are usually wrong(except for rods) and go with the latest number. The 1158-6635a1 shows NLA but you can use a pre 80's in a pinch if you cant find the correct on on Ebay.
