Mercury 4 cyl switch box

Hi all,
I recently picked up a used switch box for my 850. I am guessing it is a CDI. It has a black wire comming out of the potting which my original box did not have. I am assuming that this wire is intended to be hooked up to ground? Can anyone verify this for me?
