3.5 Recoil Starter No Long Available - Any Ideas?

The recoil starter and key on my 83 merc does not retract. Tried taking apart but the screw holding in - seems to frozen. Even with some whacks of the impact driver it does ot want to break loose. Part shows no longer avaiable - any ideas. thanks

soak with with pb blaster or wd.. let it sit for a day. The impact screwdriver is the way to go.

Ok - Ill keep at it. If that does not do it - I may try drilling out - don't have anything to lose.

if you do drill it out use an ez out or a reverse drill bit.

I'm glad I did not get screw out. Soaked overnite and it recoils now. Must have been gummed up on inside.
