I have a mariner outboard 75 hp engine the years around 1990. there is a small hole right above the lower unit that has a small hose attached that is plugged. It is shown in the picture attached, with the arrow. I am not sure what this is for? is it to assist in filling the lower unit with gear oil or what is its purpose? Thanks

It is to connect a speedometer to, instead of drilling a hole in your boat to mount a pitot.
