Can i use my 1978 mercury 200hp dual cable push and pull steering for my new 1988 mercury 200hp dual cable set up? It looks to have the same connections as the 1988 except for the new motor has a different motor mount with wider mounting holes. For thoes of you that had replied to my last thread, i did decide to buy the motor and its controls. Its a 1988 merc 200 hp with a leakdown test and a 113 +_ 2 compression reading for 1500$.. I think i did ok?? I guess now its time to re-drill the transome holes 1 and 3/4 farther apart and fill in the existing. Im also thinking of adding a aluminium 1/4" plate to the inside of the transome for a little extra support. I guess all i need to do now is figure out the steering. Again this is my first boat, If there is anything im doing completly wrong please let me know.. haha.. Thanks guys for helping me out with my build!
