40 hp slips out of gear

I have a 94, 40 hp mercury outboard. It seems to be slipping out of gear. I have to have the motor trimmed full down in order for the prop to stay engaged. Any up trim and the rpm go very high, as if the transmition is slipping.

Any Help would be greatly appriciated.

I'm having this same problem. I was hoping it has nothing to do with the lower unit gears.

I just read it could be the prop hub.
