My brother gave me his Merc 20 outboard. He had it running last year but the water pump failed and it probably overheated. It's been sitting for over a year so i recently tried to get it started again. It has an electric start but it never turns over. I took the carburetor apart and cleaned it, and installed new gaskets. It sounds like it wants to start but still won't turn over. I haven't replaced the water pump yet because i wanted to see if i could get it running first before investing more money into it. I don't have a manual, nor can i find one at my local library.
It has a good spark and good compression. I also bought new gasoline.
Can anyone please recommend some troubleshooting tips?
