75HP Mariner idle adjustment

Hey guys I done a motor swap on a pontoon boat here recently (1995 21' Suntracker Fishing Barge), I had a 75hp Mariner 2-stroke inline 4cyl (1985 year model) that I installed on the pontoon. I have everything hooked up and now the idle will ramp up to high. I can adjust it by ear (no service manual to go by) to sound pretty good and it goes into forward gear easily and throttles up good, but when I return to neutral it's back to idling up to high.

I did use the same control and cables that was on the 95 pontoon boat, it did have a 95 year model 70hp Force (by Mercury) that had a bad powerhead on it orignally. I just can't figure out how to keep the idle from ramping up to high. Adjusted the idle down and tried it in reverse, it works good going into gear until you return to neutral position.

I tried adjusting on the cable some back and forth but was really unsure on that also, maybe there's a sweet spot for the cable adjustment I'm missing right now, "your thoughts"

Any advise or coaching would be helpful.

Thanks

Tony
