Hello,

I am buying my first boat and got a reading of compression test from 110-115 and all 6 cylinders. I will apreciate if you someone could help with their knowledge.

Is this a good number?

What is the stock compression?

Also, is this a good engine?

Please send your comments good or bad.

Thank you very much!

Regards,
Julio A.

Those are excellent numbers, because there is such a narrow (5psi) span.

There is no "stock" compression. Too many variables.

Yes, that is a good engine.

Agreed- those numbers are great and with such even distribution you show zero signs of issues. The Merc V6 engines are great- some greater than others. (I love the 2.5l engines.) Use a quality oil, use a quality fuel additive and keep your maintenance up and run it like you stole it.

From the Merc service manual:
COMPRESSION All Models ? Using a fully charged battery, throttle shutters wide open and cylinder block warm
110 ? 135 psi (753.3 ? 924.5 kPa)
Variance between cylinders should not exceed 15 psi (102.7 kPa)

Those are variables, Faztbullet. Condition of the wiring, quality of the gauge and technique of the tester are, too.

Position of the throttles does not matter.

I tend to agree but this is what manual states...
