I have the service manual for my specific engine and I'm having trouble removing the lower unit to get to the water pump. More specifically, I'm stuck at step 4 as seen in the attachment -- removing the shift shaft retainer that holds the shift shaft running down to the gear housing. I've removed the 2 bolts from the retainer, but from there I've no clue how to release the shaft from the retainer.
If anyone could please point me in the right direction I would appreciate it very much!
