Hi fellow boater.. We just bought a 2000 boat with a 125hp motor. It ran fine at first for 1 day.:) Now it turns over very slow and will not start. Replaced corroded battery terminals and it did not fix the problem. Was able to turn the engine over with a rope and it caught briefly. Any thoughts? Has a brand new battery also.

Recheck the cables at both ends. They can corrode inside where you can't see it and cause that problem. Temp use jumper cables to test them. If all good have the battery load tested regardless of age. If still all good try jumping the starter solenoid. Finally pull the starter and have it tested at your local auto electric shop. They can rebuild it if necessary.

Crank it for 15 seconds. Then check the connections for hot spots. Where your skin sticks is the problem.

Check battery voltage while cranking. Should be over 10V

If not that, and the solenoid isn't real (as in smoking) hot, the starter's bad.
