do I need a flywheel remover to get the flywheel off?

yes, you can make one or buy one. DO NOT USE A PULLER THAT GRABS THE OUTSIDE EDGE!!!! use one that braces against the crank and threads into the bolt holes on top center area of flywheel else you will warp it and be unhappy.

Having removed my 3rd flywheel I can tell you with authority of experience it is a PAIN IN THE @$$!. My motors are a 1974, 1963, and a 1958 Mark 75.
I used some KROIL penetrating oil, to assist in breaking them loose, and some sacrificial chickens, a shrine to Carl, and a bid of black arts......Use the right tool and follow the tips others have posted on here (sans the chickens and shrine but you will want the black arts)
