Try disconnecting the yellow wires to the rectifier and taping the connections. Go take her out and see if the problem goes away. If so, replace the rectifier.

Also check fuel flow to the carbs to ensure you do not have a restriction limiting flow and thus power and RPM under load.

Thanks for all the replies tomorrow I will check the rectifier its not a gas problem same prop since new 1994 has good compression I had two burnt out voltage regulators which I replaced I'm certain its electrical and I'm not too good with figuring out electrical!

OK, run CDIElectronics.com test on high speed windings of Stator. 4K RPM is above where high speed windings usually kick in, but if you are sure it is electrical...

Could be a lot of things, though I doubt it is the Stator if your getting 4000 revs.
1st check all cylinders are firing/Spark by pulling plugs one at a time while idling(with insulated pliers). If engine tone stays the same when pulled, that cylinder is dead/ not running.
2nd check your prop is not slipping.Don't know if that would effect revs.
3rd Check timing and sync carbs, also high speed jets for blockages.Good Luck.

'nuther possibility is a trigger wire opening up, killing 2 cylinders, when flexed by the timing mechanism.

Maybe take off the cowl, rig up an inductive timing light on each cylinder in turn and find out which are dropping out. If none, then it's fuel.

All you're looking for is the gun to flash, indicating spark.
