Hello,
I am stumped. I am working on a 68 1250 ss that is in nice shape. I am trying to set the max advance timing following the directions in a
Seloc manual. I have checked the belt timing all the marks line up fine. I am following the manuals method for the max advance setting using the starter to turn the motor with dry carbs. They ask for a reading of 34 degrees btdc. I can barely get the dots on the flywheel to get near the timing tape(60 degrees btdc guestamate) on the housing before I run out of linkage for the adjustment (the threaded rod with the block in the middle of two lock nuts).
Am I mising out on somthing here? I am a car guy so the issue of timing is not new to me. I have thought about advancing the timing by a tooth or so with the belt, but I dont know. Is my issue caused by somthing else going south?
The engine does run nice at idle up to 3/4 throttle at full throttle it surges (spark seems to cut out on all cylinders). This problem is what got me into checking timing.
Any help would be great.
