I have had this 2007 motor for a couple of years, and on my last fishing trip, had this start up:

After 20 - 30 minutes at 2/3 throttle, I brought it back to idle (in gear - trolling). Next time I wanted to move to another spot (got the boat moving), there was an oscillating chirping noise coming from the motor while at higher rpm's; similar to the sound of a car fan belt slipping.

The next morning, it was even worse, and also happened at low rpm. When it was happening at marina speed (5 mph), I put it into neutral then back into gear, and it disappeared.

Got it to the merc service center I use, and they could not repeat the sound when motor was in the tank; the idle timing belt has teeth (so looks like it cannot slip, and it looked fine); their computer doiagnosis showed no issues/faults.

So its one of these intermittent things, but I'll bet it shows up next time I am on the water.

Any ideas?
