Im new to the forums and new to Boating (former kayaker tired of paddling). My Mariner when in Neutral has a clicking or racheting noise coming from the lower unit. When I move the shifter up slightly it quits. I tried adjusting the linkage in the top where the shifter is but no luck Any help would be appreciated:)

If moving the throttle/shift lever foreward stops the noise, then at the motor, you need to turn the barrel nut a few turns closer to the back end of the cable.
Of the 2 cables at the motor the upper one is the throttle (don't adjust it), the lower one is the shift, turn the barrel nut a few turns to shorten the back end of the cable. May need to move it as much as 1/4" or so.
