what am i doing wrong?

hey

so i have a 9.8 merc about 85.. i changed the water pump but she no spin.... when i turn the shaft it just stays in same spot... i can see there is a female grove on the impeller but no male part on the shaft... am i missing something?? sorry im just learning from this site and youtube..lol

There's a little flat sided stainless steel key that you've misplaced when you took the old impeller out. it goes between the 'flat' on the drive shaft and a groove in the impeller. Either hunt up the old one or buy a new one. It may have fell down a water passage and you have to up end the lower unit and shake it out. That's also a good time to dig out any pieces of the old impeller rubber that are down in those passages.

thanks guys i found it .. was cleaning my work area and found it in the dirt.. so i fix that problem everything seams to be flowing well.but exhaust and steam
is coming out of the water tube .. that cant be good right??
