In the new fuel pump kit they only have a plastic check valves with a nylon retainer, what I am taking off the fuel pump is rubber check valves with a plastic disk over it and held in place with a nylon retainer.

It does not say in the instruction but I assume the rubber check valve is being replaced with the plastic check valve as an improved design. Is that correct? It also says to ream out the retainer hole to 1/8 inch dia. but it is already that size.

is this new design going to increase the fuel pressure in some way?

They used to be just rubber, then plastic over rubber and a slightly larger rivet hole. Now they just use the plastic disk. The instructions say "if it needs reaming" or something to that effect.

Fuel pressure is not changed. That is determined by the springs in the pump. The rubber valves can't take some of the new fuels/additives.

hope it helps

WOW rebuilt the fuel pump and now it has about double the pressure. It used to just dribble fuel now it spurts it out.
