135 HP Mainer outboard 2 cycle runs fine before it gets hot from running on the lake then loses power barley enough to pull a tube goes from 50mph to no more then 35mph. Power comes back at random but is fine after it cools down. Its firing on all cylinders just seems like the timing isn't right has a delay when you throttle it in neutral instead of being right there every time like a 2 stroke should be. Switch boxes have been replaced was told it was the stater or trigger. Has anyone had the same issue?

When it acts up you need to immediately test for spark on all cyls. A failing spark on one side may be a stator heating and failing, failing spark on two cyls (one each side) may be a trigger.

A dying high speed stator winding will fail to produce spark at temp and above 2500 RPM, however cranking, the low speed winding will still make spark. Spark and DVA testing must be done at speed.

Use an inductive timing light or an inductive tach to check each cyl while running.

Either condition should be verified by DVA testing before ordering any NON-returnable electrical parts.
