Mariner 50 Water Pump Base Stuck in Place

I am having trouble removing the water pump base from my Mariner 50. It rocks up about 1/16" and then rocks back when i try to pry it off. It's a 1982 4 cylinder. I have chewed up the edges of the pump bas trying to get it to come off. I can't seem to get any decent leverage on it to get the base off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I finally got the base off. I had to use the largest screwdriver I had and a second on the other side to keep it from getting cocked to one side.
I leaned into it and kept pressure on until it flew off and it the garage door above me. Now I am having trouble getting the new one in.
