My throttle rod pops out of the plastic clips when i put the throttle in the max position. Another words when I give it maximum gass the throttle rod pops out of the plastic clips that hold it in place. The throttle rod is # 20 on the throttle lever and linkage diagrams. The model # of my engine is 1-090412ZD Mercury Outboard 2002.

Is there some kind of adjustment I need to make and if so where?

Purchase new plastic clips or bushings that will solve your problem.

+1 or ditto, whichever. I just had the problem on the same engine and that solved it. Upon removing the old ones I found some were cracked and others just had the plastic deformed with age/usage and couldn't maintain the required linkage alignment.

Thanks for this info!!! My neighbors 2002 Merc Tracker 90 is doing exactly the same thing!!! Give it some throttle and the linkage pops out of the plastic bushings!!!
I found the part number for the plastic bushings if anyone else needs them... Mercury# MRC-932481, description- "Bushing".. about $6-$7 apiece (need 2).
Now to try to find a few locally....
Thanks again!!! :)
