'96 Mariner 175 EFI Water pump

Hey folks,
This is my 3rd water pump replacement, but this time I just do not seem to recall how to get that copper water pipe to go in properly. Without the pipe on the pump, the lower unit goes right into place. With the pipe on the pump and the white plastic sleeve in place the pipe gets hung up on something top side leaving the lower unit about 7/8" from landing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Called my technician. The water tube needs to be inserted into the powerhead fitting before installing the lower unit. It is then guided into the water pump housing using the 3-4" white plastic tube that is slid over the water tube. Hope this helps someone in the future.
