How do I set the points, and what are they set at? How do I shift it? This is my first old Merc.

1) You have to remove flywheel with proper tools (harmonic balancer/flywheel puller) and set the points gap to .018 (90% sure, it is stamped into the flywheel)

2) Push the button that says "F" for forward (left button looking at face of outboard), and the button that says "N" for neutral (right button looking at face of outboard). Spin it around 180 for reverse. Don't wrap your fuel line, swing it back the opposite direction for forward.

Also, and this is important, always shift in lower RPMs
