I was told by the repair shop that both my fuel pumps are bad. They said $1500 to fix. I think this is steep. Is this something, if I buy the reair manual, that an average person can fix? Thanks in advance for any help.

If they were due to old gas, I have gotten pretty good results by submerssing them into an ultrasonic cleaner, Harbor Freight has on for about 70 bucks. 1/3 Simple Green 2/3 water and run the cylce a few times with the heat on. If it works great, if not everyone can find uses for an ultrasonic cleaner. Really depends how bad they are. And you may need to rig up some way to power the pump while submerssed in the solvent a few times just make sure you dry completely. Regaurdless when you get everything fixed you may want to get in the habit of draining your VST everytime even with stabilzed fuel.
