I have a mercury 110 (9.8hp, 1976). I took exhaust cover/baffle and cylinder block cover off looking for blockages in the cooling system. New gaskets are on the way however question is: do these gasket go back on dry or is there some goop/sealant that should be used? Also should some lubricant (never-seize) be applied to the screw threads?

Re: Mercury 110 gasket goop?

normaly no gasket sealer is needed. on slightly worn surfaces some shalack is used to make a seal. I would definitely spay every hloe a bolt goes in with lubricant that allows it to flow to the other side but if the hole has no escape lube it and blow it out as not to create a lock when rebolting this can cause damage and posible fracture of the threaded hole
