I changed the impeller assembly and poppet valve on my 2004 Merc 150 2 stroke (carb) in 2009. I have not used the boat since. I have started the engine from time to time and need to know if I should change the impeller again. I am finally finding the time to use my boat. Please advise....Thanks,

Did you hook up water supply to the engine each time you started it? If not, the impeller is toast. If you did, it might be OK. Poppet will be fine.

It's a do it yourself job and about 35 in parts. Well worth it once a year to be sure it stays cool.

Martin is right....the less you use it the worse it is...I don't put new impellers in until the week before I going to use my boats for the season...Once had a brand new impeller put in, didn't use the boat for two years and the impeller was toast from taking a set..Change them every year, it is cheap insurance.....
