I have a good running Mercury 850 from 1965, it came to me with a damaged lower unit, beyond repair.
What year lower gear case can I use? I've got one from a 1979 inline 6 that appears to bolt up, it don't match the front edge just perfect but all bolts, and the shifter match up and the drive shaft is the same. The prop nut is a finer thread though but it looks like it should work.
Has anyone any first hand experience with year interchanges on these?
