Rebuilding carbs on 1978 70hp Mercury. Following SELOC procedure. On one of the carbs, main nozzle (part #6 in diagram linked below) won't come out.

How critical is it that I get that sucker out? Any tricks for getting it out?

Thanks

when I did mine i couldn,t get it to budge even boke the end off trying what i did was take an oversized screwdriver and tpped it into the main jet enought to grip it and twist and the sucker came out. be very careful if you try this you may damage the threads. do this only as a last resort

Just blow it out with some "Jet spray" carb cleaner. They usually have several drilled holes around the sides of the nozzle, so watch for the cleaner to exit there. Wear some eye protection as that stuff burns the skin and eyes...
